Tensile Cables was approached to provide the cabling for a suspension bridge that would support a replacement sewer line in McGregor, Western Cape. The original sewer line had been washed away during severe flooding toward the end of 2023. To ensure the new line was safely and securely placed across the river, a main suspension cable, measuring 42 meters in length and 14mm in diameter, was used. In addition, 6mm diameter hanger cables were installed along the main suspension cable to hold the sewer pipe in place across the 40m span.
The use of a cable suspension bridge to support the sewer pipe across the river offers several benefits. The flexibility and strength of cable allows for efficient load distribution, making them ideal for spanning long distances. The design reduces the need for extensive foundations or heavy infrastructure in the water, minimizing environmental impact.
This approach provides a cost-effective and durable solution to maintaining essential services like sewer lines across challenging terrain.
